Advanced Medical Optics Complete MoisturePlus Litigation
Lieff Cabraser represented consumers nationwide in personal injury lawsuits filed against Advanced Medical Optics arising out of the May 2007 recall of AMO’s Complete MoisturePlus Multi Purpose Contact Lens Solution. The product was recalled due to reports of a link between a rare but serious eye infection, Acanthamoeba keratitis, caused by a parasite, and use of AMO’s contact lens solution.
Plaintiffs charged that though AMO aggressively promoted Complete MoisturePlus Multi Purpose as “effective against the introduction of common ocular microorganisms,” the lens solution was ineffective and vastly inferior to other multipurpose solutions on the market. Several plaintiffs were forced to undergo painful corneal transplant surgery to save their vision and some lost all or part of their vision permanently.
The litigation was resolved under favorable, confidential settlements with AMO.
