Yaz Side Effect Injuries
Issue: Blood clots and other dangerous side effects
Yaz Lawsuits and Settlements – Update
Serious side effects have been linked to the birth control drugs Yaz and Yasmin, and their generic versions Gianvi and Ocella. These side effects include strokes, heart attacks and blood clots that form inside a vein, known as deep vein thrombosis. The blood clots usually start in the lower leg or thigh. If they break loose, the blood clots can travel to other areas of the body such as the lungs and become life threatening if undetected or untreated.
To date, Bayer, the manufacturer of Yaz, Yasmin, Gianvi and Ocella, has announced settlements of 7,660 claims – totaling $1.6 billion – in the Yaz birth control lawsuits.
Yaz Lawsuits Summarized
Prescription drug companies owe a duty to patients to sell prescription drugs that are safe and effective, and fully disclose the risks associated with their drugs.
Our clients charged that Bayer failed to comply with this duty. They claimed Bayer was aware of the greater risk of blood clots from Yaz and Yasmin compared to other birth control drugs, and failed to adequately warn patients and physicians of this risk.
