Avery Halfon is a partner in Lieff Cabraser’s New York office. Avery represents plaintiffs in some of the country’s largest complex litigation, challenging—and changing—harmful industry practices. He has worked with lead counsel on mass torts and class actions seeking accountability for the opioid epidemic, poisonous water at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, toxic hair relaxer products, defective vehicles and other products, a California oil spill, financial manipulation, consumer fraud, sexual abuse, discrimination, and more. These cases have won billions for injured parties.
Avery is a member of the Associate Board of the New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers, and was a member of Law360’s 2023 and 2021 Consumer Protection Editorial Advisory Board. Prior to joining Lieff Cabraser, Avery served as a Law Clerk to Judge Jane B. Stranch of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Prior to his clerkship, Avery worked as a Fellow at Cohen Milstein Sellers & Toll, PLLC on litigation related to the opioid crisis, climate change, discrimination, human rights, and pension rights.
Avery graduated from Harvard Law School cum laude, where he served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Harvard Law & Policy Review, a Team Leader for the Harvard Defenders, and a member of the Alien Tort Statute litigation team with Harvard’s International Human Rights Clinic. During law school Avery worked for Senator Charles E. Schumer on the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, EarthRights International, and the New York State Attorney General’s Public Integrity Bureau.
