As reported by CNN, a newly released investigative report has determined that the 2018 Woolsey Fire was sparked by equipment owned and controlled by SoCal Edison. One of the largest and most destructive fires in Los Angeles history, the Woolsey fire burned more than 96,000 acres, destroyed 1,634 structures and caused three deaths.
“The Investigation Team (IT) determined electrical equipment associated with the Big Rock 16kV circuit, owned and operated by Southern California Edison (SCE), was the cause of the Woolsey Fire,” the report stated. Due to strong winds, a guy wire on a steel pole connected with an energized conductor, causing “heated material” to fall on vegetation “thereby causing the Woolsey Fire,” it states.
The report was released after a Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge said a delay caused by a California attorney general’s office investigation no longer took precedence over the public’s right to know the cause of the fire.
