Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe and Wrangler 4xe Hybrid Battery Fire Risk Recall

Expanded Fire-Risk Recall for Jeep Wrangler 4xe Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles Includes 2022-2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe

Lieff Cabraser represents drivers of Jeep Wrangler 4xe Plug-In Hybrid Electric vehicles (PHEVs) in a class action lawsuit regarding an alleged battery defect that may cause the vehicles to catch fire and, in some cases, explode. These fires may occur during the charging of the hybrid battery, when the car is turned off and parked, leaving owners and lessees with cars they cannot charge or store at home. FCA has now acknowledged that the same issue may be happening to the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe.

After multiple reports of spontaneous fire and explosion, FCA issued a recall in late 2023 for certain Jeep Wrangler 4xes. Due to the danger of sudden battery discharge, the recall instructed owners and lessees of these vehicle to refrain from recharging these vehicles and not to park them inside of buildings or structures, or near other vehicles until the vehicle has the final repair completed.”

FCA recently announced an expanded recall that includes the 2020-2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe as well as the 2022-2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe. This recent recall similarly advises drivers of these Jeeps that the high voltage batteries in their car could fail and catch fire, and instructed consumers not to plug in their cars or store them in a garage or near other vehicles. As a result, owners and lessees have been forced to not drive their cars and must keep them isolated to minimize the fire risk.

Please note that we are not currently taking on any new plaintiffs in this case.
