We are delighted to announce that Lieff Cabraser’s in-house rockers, The R-23s, once again took the prestigious “Best Lawyer Band in the Bay” Award at last night’s virtual Banding Together to End Domestic Violence benefit for the Family Violence Appellate Project. This marks the fifth year in a row the R-23s have rocked the FVAP house to the utmost critical acclaim! Along with receiving the Judge’s Choice award for musical excellence, the band also took the third place slot for funds raised to help California survivors of domestic violence!
In FVAP’s annual Battle of the Bands fundraiser, bands made up of attorneys and employees from local law firms and corporate legal teams come together to compete on stage in 20-minute sets. The goals are to have a great time and to raise funds for FVAP, the only nonprofit organization in California dedicated to appealing cases on behalf of domestic violence survivors and their children for free. The Project represents low-income survivors when trial court decisions leave them or their children at risk of ongoing abuse. The fund raiser is held in both San Francisco and Los Angeles to support FVAP’s mission to keep domestic violence survivors safe and create legal precedents in favor of survivors throughout the state.
Congratulations to the R-23s!

About the Family Violence Appellate Project (FVAP)
The Family Violence Appellate Project is transforming the power of the civil legal system and leveling the playing field for survivors of domestic violence. In many cases, survivors have also suffered financial abuse and cannot afford to appeal a trial court decision that puts them or their children in danger. At FVAP, we believe justice should be available to everyone, not just those who can afford it. We partner with pro bono attorneys from California’s top law firms and corporate legal teams to provide free, high-quality legal representation to survivors, giving them the best possible chance at success in their appeal. We win 74% of the affirmative appeals we bring to court on behalf of CA survivors — far above the statewide average of 20% — and 100% of appeals we defend.
