Portable Child Swing Dangers

  • Issue: Personal injury

Dangerous and Defective Portable Baby Swings

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, baby swings may pose a danger to infants. There have been many reports of swings that collapse, break, tip over, or allow a child to fall.

Baby Swing Safety Recalls

Recent recalls include:

  • Graco Children's Products Travel Lite Swings

In July 2004, Graco Children's Products of Exton, Pennsylvania voluntarily recalled 140,000 Travel Lite swings. The swing's carrying handle reportedly could fail to stay in place properly and drop or be pushed down, hitting a child in the head. Additionally, the 3-point seatbelt could fail to prevent a child from leaning forward or to either side, posing a risk that the child could fall forward and strike her head on the floor or the swing's frame.

  • Baby Trend Infant Swings (Sold at Toys 'R' Us)

Baby Trend Inc. of Ontario, California voluntarily recalled for repair about 15,000 infant swings in November 2002. A screw on the swing's support arm could reportedly loosen or detach, causing the seat to separate and drop to one side.
