- Issue: Loss of sense of smell
Lieff Cabraser represents plaintiffs in personal injury/product liability lawsuits brought against Zicam LLC, Matrixx Initiatives, Inc., and Botanical Laboratories, Inc.
The complaints allege that as a result of having used Zicam homeopathic cold remedy products, consumers suffered anosmia, the loss of smell.
The United States Food and Drug Administration received 130 reports of consumers who had lost their sense of smell after use of Zicam nasal products, including Zicam Cold Remedy and Zicam Cold Remedy Swabs, dating back to 1999. On June 17, 2009, the FDA issued a warning to consumers to stop using Zicam because it can damage or destroy the sense of smell.
