Government Pushes Drop-Side Crib Ban
The Los Angeles Times
December 14, 2010
The Consumer Protection Safety Commission plans to vote Wednesday to ban the manufacture, sale and resale of drop-side cribs, several of which have been recalled for defective designs by the CPSC.
The drop-side cribs have come under scrutiny in recent years because of malfunctioning hardware that can lead to the drop-side rail partially detaching from the crib. When this happens, it can creat a dangerous “V” -like gap between the mattress and side rail where a babie can become entrapped and suffocate.
As part of their new standard, the CPSC plans to vote on this week a more rigorous safety testing for cribs.
