AMO Lens Solution

  • Issue: Contaminated lens solution

Advanced Medical Optics Complete MoisturePlus Litigation

Lieff Cabraser represents consumers nationwide in personal injury lawsuits filed against Advanced Medical Optics arising out of the May 2007 recall of AMO's Complete MoisturePlus Multi Purpose Contact Lens Solution. The product was recalled due to reports of a link between a rare, but serious eye infection, Acanthamoeba keratitis, caused by a parasite and use of AMO's contact lens solution.

Plaintiffs charge that though AMO aggressively promoted Complete MoisturePlus Multi Purpose as "effective against the introduction of common ocular microorganisms," the lens solution was ineffective and vastly inferior to other multipurpose solutions on the market. Several plaintiffs were forced to undergo painful corneal transplant surgery to save their vision and some have lost all or part of their vision permanently.

The majority of Lieff Cabraser's clients have settled their cases with AMO on favorable, confidential terms.
